At age 36, Heather was diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma, just after giving birth to her first and only child. She was originally given a prognosis of just 15 months. With the help and support of her husband Cameron, Heather sought treatment from renowned specialist Dr. David Sugarbaker. Heather underwent an aggressive extrapleural pneumonectomy surgery, which removed one of her lungs. She is now a survivor sharing her story and working to raise awareness of mesothelioma and the dangers of asbestos.

Heather continues to provide hope and inspiration around the world to mesothelioma and their loved ones. She has spoken as a keynote speaker for prominent conferences while also speaking out through social media forums. Heather has also advocated for an asbestos ban by speaking to government representatives on numerous occasions.
